I’m Cynthia B. A mentor, personal advisor, writer, and—lovingly dubbed—your internet big sis.

 

I’m forty-one, and for over a decade, I’ve been dedicated to helping women get out of their own way. Whether it’s dating, relationships, the spiritual side of being a woman, or just navigating womanhood in general, they come to me because they know my work is rooted in a level of honesty and authenticity that calls you out, then calls you in.

 

“I’ve been through a lot of shit, but I’ve also put myself through a lot of shit” is a sentence I’m not only notoriously known for, but is ultimately the reason I’m so trusted.

 

Well, that… and the fact that I show up every day as myself.

 

I don’t try to sound overly polished, because I’m not. I use cuss words, talk openly about my past, the different versions of myself that I’ve been, the work I needed to do in order to become the woman I am now, and all the steep learning curves along the way—and I don’t sugarcoat any of it.

 

Yes, being a mentor, personal advisor (or a coach) is my job—my life’s work, actually. But it doesn’t place me on some higher moral ground, shield me from life’s ups and downs, or smooth my edges. As a matter of fact, I quite like that my edges are lived-in. That’s what gives me character.

 

At the beginning and end of every day, I am a little bit of every woman who’s ever loved me, inspired me, encouraged me, taught me, and pushed me to take up space in my own life. I’m just paying that forward by doing the same for other women.
